Pamer Lab

The end of spring quarter marks a season of big transitions for the Pamer Lab, as all three graduate students successfully defended their theses and  prepare to graduate.

Cody Cole kicked things off on April 23rd with his defense titled “Lantibiotic-producing Bacteria Impact Microbiome Resilience and Colonization Resistance.” Just five days later, Rosemary Pope defended her thesis, “The Roles of Coprophagia and Ampicillin-resistant Commensal Bacteria in Gut Microbiota-mediated Colonization Resistance to Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus.” Sophie Son completed the trio less than 24 hours later with her defense, “Understanding the Dynamics of Clostridioides difficile Infection in Human Gut Microbiomes Using Multi-omic Approaches.”

Cody will continue his research in Kenya Honda’s lab in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo. Rosemary is heading to the West Coast to join Hiutung Chu’s lab at the University of California, San Diego. As part of the Interdisciplinary Scientist Training Program, Sophie will remain at the University of Chicago to complete the final years of her medical degree.

We couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments and wish them all the best in their future endeavors!
